We talked to a woman who is charge of small groups at her church yesterday. She is the wife of a retired Marine, the mom of a current Marine (she also has children in the AF and Army). Her Marine son has been in Iraq, but right now he is some other place-on humanitarian duty. She told us that he went 2 1/2 months without a shower while he was at war–can you imagine?
She also told us that when he came home he told his parents, “I lost 7 of my men.” Rick says that when they say “I LOST” they mean, that they are taking personally the thought that they failed… that they didn’t protect their men despite their prayers, best efforts, etc. She said that she saw changes, which is more than likely post-traumatic stress. She can’t wait to get the materials from MilMin (Marriage Bible studies, the DVD curriculum on PTSD, Spiritual Fitness guides, etc) incorporated into their church life. Isn’t it great when churches who are able to identify the needs of their warriors and their families, will be getting these materials into the hands of the Marines who visit their church? They have had more than 1000 visitors during calendar year 2010, and most of them are Marines and their families. When we left the church yesterday, Rick had tears in his eyes, “I love my job,” he says.
Just thought I’d share.
