Rick and I are safely back in Florida after nineteen days of travel. What a blessing it was to renew old friendships and even make a few new ones. God was gracious to us–we had no car problems, the ‘kids’ are fine, the animals survived our absence, and we grew in our confidence that “that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion…”(Philippians 1:6)
We were able to enjoy 2 birthdays, 2 homecomings (and the football games), a picnic and a hike, parts of the National League Championship, and many spirited discussions among family and friends.
One friend, who is a professor mentioned that he has veterans in class who refuse to sit anywhere but in the back of the classroom; we saw in a new way, the need to support service members as they integrate back into society. Another friend shared how important missions are to him and he volunteered to be a Ministry Partner, without even hearing about our call and vision. This reminded me that we can depend on God to go before us to touch hearts, a reminder I need on a regular basis. Rick spent time with a chaplain-friend and through this friend, opportunities were created to enhance the mission of Military Ministry among Navy chaplains and Marines. Other friends opened their homes, fed us, and refreshed our spirits by their presence and encouragement. A moment we will treasure is our sons asking to pray with Rick one evening and so the three of them bowed in prayer together–we see our children have become our brothers and sisters in the family of Christ.
God is good–all the time.
